With the aim of contributing to the community and strengthening social welfare initiatives, SAIGON  Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company (SAIGON IX) recently collaborated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and the Red Cross Society of Hiep Thanh Commune in Lam Dong Province to successfully organize a livelihood support program for families facing difficulties in the area. This practical initiative reflects SAIGON IX’s commitment to social responsibility while creating opportunities for people in remote communities to improve their lives.

Supporting the Black Pig Breeding Model: A Sustainable Economic Path

As part of the program, SAIGON IX directly funded and supported the “black pig breeding model”. This agricultural model has been recognized for its positive economic potential, offering local residents a new direction toward long term and self reliant livelihoods.

During this round of funding and support, the company provided breeding livestock to 20 families facing financial hardship facing particularly difficult circumstances across three key areas of Hiep Thanh Commune: Darahoa Village, Phu Thanh Village and Gan Reo Village in Hiep Thanh Commune, Duc Trong District, Lam Dong Province.

Ensuring Quality Breeding Stock and Direct Delivery

The total funding for this meaningful initiative amounted to more than VND 100 million. Under the distribution plan prepared by the Organizing Committee, each participating household received four healthy breeding pigs that had undergone strict health inspections with a total value of approximately VND 5 million per household.

To provide the greatest possible support to local families and ensure the health of the breeding stock, all black breeding pigs were safely transported by specialized vehicles directly to each household’s livestock facilities on the day of the handover ceremony. Thanks to this careful preparation, families were able to immediately begin caring for and feeding the pigs while applying the husbandry techniques they had been instructed in.

The “black pig breeding model” in Lam Dong has long been regarded by experts as highly suitable for the natural conditions, climate and production practices of local ethnic minority communities. These pigs are highly resilient and adaptable, making it easier for low income households to adopt the necessary techniques and improve economic efficiency within a relatively short period.

The Joy of Receiving Practical Livelihood Support

Receiving the meaningful and timely support from SAIGON IX, Ms. Ka Tay from Darahoa Village, representing the beneficiary households in this program, expressed her gratitude:

“My family and the people here are deeply grateful to the company and local authorities. These breeding pigs are a very valuable asset for our families at this time. We are determined to take good care of them, increase our income and use the support for its intended purpose so that we can stabilize our lives and gradually overcome poverty.”

At the ceremony, representatives of the local Red Cross Society also recognized and highly appreciated Saigon IX’s spirit of mutual support and its timely and strategic contribution. The representative emphasized that providing breeding livestock directly to local residents was a way of “giving people a fishing rod rather than a fish.”

This initiative addresses immediate economic challenges and helps stabilize livelihoods while also creating strong motivation for families in need to build a solid foundation for sustainable poverty reduction and reduce the risk of falling back into poverty.
